In September, the CCHA Museum volunteer team begins another year of 4th grade field trip visits exploring the history of the county in which the students live.  This hands-on 2.5-hour exploration provides children a glimpse into the lives and artifacts of people who have lived on Chatham County land over thousands of years.  This is a free experience for all fourth graders in the Chatham County school district.

How do we make this a free event?  It happens because of the generosity of people who donate to this experience.  If you would like to be a sponsor, you may submit your contribution on our website: https://www.chathamhistory.org/Donate.  When you complete the form, please put in the comment box that it is for the Chatham County 4th Grade Museum Field Trip.  If you would rather donate by check, please make checks payable to CCHA or Chatham County Historical Assn., on the comment line note "Fourth Grade Field Trip,” and mail to Chatham County Historical Association, Inc. PO Box 93 Pittsboro, NC 27312.   We appreciate and accept any contribution to support our students!  Those who contribute $100 or more receive acknowledgement on the back of the student workbook used by the students during the field trip.

Another way we are able to provide this experience free of charge to students is through the volunteers who staff the experience.  The field trips begin in mid-September and continue to the first week of May on every other Thursday morning.  We spend around 3 hours of prep time and interaction time with the students.  If you are interested in history and sharing a love of history with children, please consider becoming a volunteer for our 4th grade field trip.  We do offer training for our volunteers.  Submit your interest in becoming a volunteer to Darlene Ryan at FourthGrade@ChathamHistory.org.
