Geology Hands On April 3, 2022 |
The Historic Chatham Courthouse was the site of a Hands-On Introduction to Chatham County Geology - Rock Identification on First Sunday, April 3, 2022. Visitors met two experts-- retired geologist Chris Palmer and local mining historian Forest Hazel, who shared their knowledge of Chatham's rocks, fossils, minerals, and mining history with all ages. Chris helped those who brought in Chatham treasures for him to identify, and Forest shared his knowledge of Chatham mines. A few photos of the busy day are shared here. There are still two opportunities to learn more. Our geology and mining exhibit will be up through April and May, and on Sunday, May 15, at 2:00pm, Chris will present a program on Chatham Geology in the Historic Courthouse courtroom. Both the exhibit and program are free and everyone is invited. Photos by Gary Simpson. Our Museum is open Wed-Fri from 11 -4. More info on our home page. |
